How Does Botox Work?
Botox, short for botulinum toxin, is a neurotoxin that temporarily relaxes specific muscles — most commonly for cosmetic treatments like reducing wrinkles and fine lines. Here's how it works:
Blocking Nerve Signals
Botox interferes with communication between nerves and muscles. Normally, nerves release a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine, which signals muscles to contract. Botox blocks the release of acetylcholine at the injection site.
Relaxing the Muscle
Without acetylcholine triggering contraction, the treated muscle relaxes. This softens the overlying skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles caused by muscle movement — such as frown lines, crow's feet, and forehead lines.
Temporary, Predictable Results
Botox results typically last 3 to 6 months. As nerve-muscle communication gradually returns, normal muscle movement resumes, and follow-up treatments can maintain your results.

Recovery and Results
Some patients experience minimal bruising and swelling but these subside quickly.
The next several hours following your treatment, you’ll need to avoid rubbing your face, sleeping on your face, high-intensity exercising, tanning, and saunas.
You can expect to see your Botox results about three to five days after your appointment. The longevity of Botox results vary for each person, depending on their individual muscle strength and how deep their lines and wrinkles are. However, in general, Botox results last from 3 to 4 months and we recommend Botox treatments to be repeated every 3 to 4 months for a maintaining optimal results.
