Botox and Fillers
Botox treatment has been around for many years. It works by reducing the strength of muscle contractions that control dynamic wrinkles in targeted areas of the face. The result is a noticeable reduction of skin wrinkles in the treated areas. Botox injections are performed without anesthesia as there is minimal discomfort. The effects are not permanent and may need to be repeated two to three times per year to retain the desired effects. Research has suggested, however, that long term use of the injections leads to a longer duration of each treatment’s effect. Patients over the age of 65 may not experience as dramatic of results. Botox is only useful in treating expression lines and cannot be used to repair sagging skin caused by aging.
JUVÉDERM is a dermal filler introduced to the U.S. market by Allergan, the company which manufactures Botox. It is a hyaluronic acid based filler similar to Restylane. However, JUVÉDERM injectable gel employs its unique manufacturing process to provide the highest concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid of any currently available hyaluronic acid dermal filler for long-lasting results. This advanced manufacturing process also creates a smooth consistency gel that flows easily into the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and feel.
Belotero Balance is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler designed to treat superficial lines and moderate to severe wrinkles on the face. It is very natural looking and adds subtle volume and plumpness to facial tissue with little to no downtime. Since the gel is softer than most other products on the market, it integrates into facial skin more easily and adapts well to facial contours. Patients treated with Belotero have stated that they see immediate results with reduction and softening of wrinkles but the results are more natural and subtle when compared with other hyaluronic acid fillers. Belotero was approved by the FDA in March of 2011 and has been available in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Russia, Austria, and Switzerland for several years.
Restylane is made of hyaluronic acid, the same viscous substance that lubricates our joints! Both products are FDA approved for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. This material is not obtained from donors; rather, it is synthesized in pure form in the lab. Because it is a thick substance that occurs naturally in the human body, it is more comfortable, lasts longer, and feels more natural than other injectable fillers such as collagen. Restylane is the most used cosmetic dermal filler, and has been used in more than 1.4 million treatments in the U.S.
Radiesse is a safe, next generation cosmetic dermal filler for the correction of facial lines and wrinkles such as nasolabial folds. In clinical studies this filler lasts longer than some of the leading competing fillers. Radiesse is ideal for the treatment of lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth. These lines are typically above the mouth, running from the nose to the corners of the upper lip (Nasolabial Folds), or pointing down from the corner of the mouth towards the chin (Marionette Lines). Radiesse is made of unique calcium-based microspheres that are suspended in a natural gel that is injected into the skin through a simple, safe, and minimally invasive procedure. On average, the results last over one year, saving you time and money, since the injections are less frequent. Radiesse works with your body, below the skin’s surface, to stimulate the production of collagen and encourage tissue regeneration. It does more than just temporarily fill-in facial lines and wrinkles, it contributes to your skin’s foundation.
